However, if your employer participates in a certified managed care plan, in most cases you must receive treatment from a doctor or clinic that is part of the plan’s network. The Department of Labor and Industry maintains a list of managed certified care plans in Minnesota.
When seeing a healthcare provider, it’s important to tell them you’re seeking treatment for a work-related injury. This will help them know what paperwork to fill out and where to send it to ensure your treatment is properly documented. You should keep track of any out-of-pocket expenses you incur, such as mileage and prescriptions, because you may be able to recover them later.
Regardless of where you seek treatment, your employer’s insurance company has the right to schedule you for an independent medical examination (IME) with a doctor of their choosing. If the doctor determines you don’t need further medical care, the insurance company will stop paying for your treatment.
